He Said What?

How much can we rely on the words spoken by various individuals as written in the Bible? Not much!

For example, there are many instances in the bible where an individual was alone with Gawd or Satan, and we are told exactly what occurred and what was said. It is certainly possible, for example, that Moses told someone what had transpired on the mountain when he received the Ten Commandments, and that someone who was there wrote down Moses’ story, but it’s very unlikely, due to the extremely low literacy rate among those people, so it is almost a certainty that the quotations in the bible are the figments of the writer’s imagination.

Nothing in the Bible was written down immediately after it occurred, and when it was recorded, it was never by the protagonist, or someone present at the time, (with the exception of Paul), so every word had to be passed along verbally from father to son, to grandson, and so on, until the author of one of the biblical ‘books’ recorded it.

We all remember the party game where someone whispers a phrase in you ear, and you tell it to your neighbor, and it is passed around the room in this manner, until, when reaches the beginning again, it rarely sounds anything like the original phrase. Well, the same thing probably happened with the transmission of the words of Jesus and other biblical ‘quotations’ for several decades or longer before being recorded.

Genesis is an eye-witness account of the creation of the universe, and since the only eye-witness must have been God, then Genesis should have been written in the first person, and therefore should read “In the beginning I created the heaven and the earth. “

Something that always bothers me, is that Christians are constantly insisting that Gawd loves us humans, if so, then he must love himself more, because our loving him is a must. But then they seem to visualize Gawd as some overgrown super-intelligent version of ourselves, with our failings as well. Surely. if he is the omniscient omnipotent Being they think he is, then he shouldn’t have human emotions such as love, hate,jealousy, etc. which are inherited through our genes.
